Опубликован специальный выпуск журнала Problems of Post-Communism (2013, vol.60, N2), посвященный протестам 2011-2012 годов в России и событиям вокруг них. Его открывает моя статья Cracks in the Wall: Challenges to Electoral Authoritarianism in Russia.

"... Why did these challenges emerge “here and now”? What explains the relative failure of the ruling group and the sudden rise of political protest? How might these developments affect Russia’s political trajectory in the future? My article seeks answers to these and other questions."

Хотя я не считаю эту свою публикацию выдающимся научным достижением - статья представляет собой, скорее, выполненный почти что "на коленке" анализ текущей "злобы дня", все же она кажется мне не бесполезной и не утратила актуальность спустя более года после написания. Ну и опубликоваться в хорошей компании коллег тоже совсем неплохо.

"The major implication for Russia’s rulers (and for other electoral authoritarian regimes across the globe) is that even shallow liberalization poses a major threat to preservation of the status quo; thus, regimes should tighten the screws and not leave sticks lying around if they do not want to lose power. It is no wonder that the Kremlin implemented certain tough measures soon after the presidential polls (arresting some opposition activists, raising fines for participation in unconventional protests, etc.). But it is unclear how much and for how long Russia’s regime will succeed in combining repression with the use of major political institutions of democracy, such as political parties and legislatures, to maintain authoritarianism by coopting the systemic opposition and isolating its antisystemic rivals..."
